Tips On Selecting Yamaha Lift Kits

By Dolores Harrison

Yamaha lift kits refer to the aftermarket vehicle modifications made to lift either suspensions or bodies of vehicles so they will have much higher profiles. Upon installation, they will make wheel wells ride higher, paving the way for the installation of tall tires. Some SUVs and even 4x4 trucks already have moderate kits installed in. They can be of two different types. Some are solely for bodies while others are exclusive for suspensions. Both come with disadvantages and benefits.

The common height for the body lift kits range from one to three inches. These work exclusively for lifting bodies out of frames though. They can come quite cheap and are comprised of both spacers and blocks. However, it is not recommended that they are used for increasing the ground clearance. They increase height of wheel wells, allowing for the installation of tall tires.

If you are looking at raising your bumpers or extending your gearshifts through the floorboard of your vehicle so body lifting for modifications can be accomodated, then be prepared to shell out some more cash. Although your preferred vehicle and height will still have an impact on how much you will need. If you are an offroader, then you might want to avoid getting this type because it does not allow for alterations in the suspensions and cannot even increase travel.

Suspension lifts are the types that raise the suspensions of vehicles by replacing rear and front shocks and leaf springs. They do not just create great travel but also allow the installation of significantly taller tire types. They also improve clearances between the ground and axles. Many vehicle owners go for suspension lifts to pave the way for articulation improvement. However, steering geometries become affected so others may still prefer adding steering stabilizers.

Know that the lifts used for suspensions come much more expensive than body lifts. They are practically more known for better handling, height and ground clearance. Most are available at four to six inches although some are sized approximately eighteen inches.

There are a lot of vehicle owners who will do away with choosing the most extreme lifts though. This is because these types are not very safe to handle. They also look very odd as compared to the standard. People who opt for them are usually hobbyists who wish to showcase collections.

When choosing lifts, it is important that vehicles remember how height is directly proportional to instability. High lifts make sharp turns, which are common when avoiding accidents and dodging incoming debris, very dangerous. Wheel jerks might not be problems for 4-inch lifts and stock suspensions but they are quite risky to those exceeding a 6-inch height.

If you simply want to have a lift kit so that you can install in taller tires, then it is possible that you will need to re-gear your car. This is for the new circumference to be accounted for. It will also help in keeping the mileage close to the stock as well. You might want to seek the professional opinion of mechanics for explanations on this issue.

There are several manufacturers catering to the production of various yamaha lift kits. Their prices might vary and will usually depend on what types or models you will prefer. You can install these without seeking for professional help though specialized tools or skills may still be essential.
